CONCEPT & DESIGN INTENT

bb.q Chicken, an internationally renowned Korean fried chicken brand, established its first flagship branch in Hong Kong with this Central location. The design intent was to merge Korean casual dining culture with a modern and natural aesthetic, creating a vibrant yet comfortable dining atmosphere. The goal was to deliver a space that balances approachability, brand identity, and international consistency, while being tailored to the Hong Kong market.

SPATIAL STRATEGY / PLANNING LOGIC

The restaurant spans across two floors with an open frontage, drawing attention from the street while providing full visibility of the lively interior. Circulation was carefully planned to maximize seating efficiency while maintaining comfortable aisle spacing and zoning. A combination of booth seating, long banquettes, and flexible dining tables allows for both individual diners and large groups. Visual anchors, such as the green feature wall and open ceiling treatments, reinforce the spatial flow and dining experience.

MATERIALITY & DETAILING

The palette emphasizes natural wood finishes, greenery, textured brick, and patterned glass, layered with industrial metal accents to reflect the brand’s youthful and urban identity.

Green walls, vertical planters, and warm ambient lighting soften the industrial undertones, offering a balance between casual dining comfort and modern design flair. The ceiling features exposed services painted white, integrated with custom timber arcs and pendant lighting to create rhythm and character.

COLLABORATION & CONSTRAINTS

This project was delivered through close collaboration with the Korean brand design team and local consultants. Significant effort was invested in addressing building code compliance and rectifying existing site irregularities, including structural adjustments and MEP coordination. Approvals required extensive dialogue with government departments due to the building’s age and prior non-conformities. These challenges were overcome with proactive planning, detailed technical solutions, and cross-border teamwork, ensuring both design excellence and compliance.
