Where Korean youth culture meets expressive retail design, a lingerie boutique becomes more than a place to shop — it becomes a vibrant setting for individuality, confidence and contemporary fashion.

Enoch Deco was commissioned to provide interior design and fit-out services for YES CODE, a Korean fashion underwear brand establishing its first retail store in Hong Kong.

Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, one of Hong Kong's most vibrant shopping and entertainment districts, the approximately 600 sq.ft. boutique was completed in 2011 within a construction period of around 1.5 months.

Targeting a younger generation of fashion-conscious consumers, YES CODE sought to introduce a retail environment that reflected the playful, colourful and expressive character of Korean youth fashion.

Unlike conventional lingerie boutiques, which often adopt a more mature, intimate or understated aesthetic, YES CODE embraced a fresher and more energetic approach.

The design direction focused on youthfulness, colour, personality and visual engagement.

Through lively colour combinations, distinctive brand graphics and an approachable retail atmosphere, the store was conceived as an extension of the brand's contemporary Korean identity.

The intention was not simply to provide an environment for displaying underwear collections, but to create a fashion-oriented shopping experience where customers could feel comfortable, confident and connected to the brand.

A further consideration was the store's visual and photographic appeal.

The vibrant interior was intended to create memorable backdrops and playful moments, encouraging customers to engage with the space beyond the conventional shopping experience.

Situated in the high-footfall retail environment of Tsim Sha Tsui, the boutique needed to establish a recognisable identity while remaining practical, accessible and welcoming.

The completed YES CODE store was more than a fashion underwear boutique. It represented the introduction of a youthful Korean retail concept to Hong Kong, combining expressive colour, approachable merchandising and a distinctive brand experience within a compact commercial space.

CONCEPT & DESIGN INTENT

Reinterpreting the conventional lingerie boutique through the energy of Korean youth fashion, expressive colours and a more relaxed approach to personal style.

The design concept for YES CODE was developed around an understanding of the brand's target audience.

Lingerie and underwear retail encompasses a broad spectrum of consumer preferences, from functional essentials to premium fashion collections.

YES CODE, however, sought to establish a more youthful position within this market.

Rather than presenting underwear through a traditional or overly formal retail environment, the brand wanted customers to experience a more playful, colourful and fashion-conscious atmosphere.

For YES CODE, underwear was not simply an everyday necessity. It was also an expression of personal style, confidence and individuality.

The interior therefore needed to communicate a sense of freedom, optimism and youthful energy.

Colour as an Expression of Brand Identity

Colour formed one of the defining elements of the design.

In contrast to the restrained palettes often associated with traditional boutiques, YES CODE adopted a more expressive visual direction.

Lively colour combinations introduced rhythm and personality into the space, reinforcing the brand's connection to contemporary Korean fashion culture.

The intention was not to use colour merely for decoration, but to establish a recognisable visual language that could strengthen the relationship between the physical store and the brand.

Korean Fashion Identity

Korean youth fashion places considerable emphasis on visual identity, individual expression and lifestyle.

As the brand expanded into Hong Kong, maintaining this original character was an important consideration.

The store needed to reflect YES CODE's established Korean identity while responding to the physical constraints and shopping habits of the local market.

The resulting design sought to retain the brand's playful nature without compromising retail practicality.

A Retail Space Worth Photographing

Another distinctive aspect of the concept was its photo-friendly character.

The design aimed to create an environment where visitors could enjoy more than the act of shopping.

Colourful backgrounds, expressive graphics and recognisable brand features offered opportunities for customers to interact with the space and capture memorable moments.

The boutique was therefore approached not only as a sales environment, but also as a visual extension of the brand's youthful lifestyle positioning.

The overall design concept can be described as:

A colourful Korean fashion boutique where youth culture, playful individuality and retail experience come together in a distinctive brand environment.

SPATIAL STRATEGY / PLANNING LOGIC

Within a compact 600 sq.ft. store, the planning strategy focused on clear merchandising, intuitive circulation and strong brand visibility, creating a practical shopping environment suited to the fast-moving retail culture of Tsim Sha Tsui.

The spatial planning for YES CODE needed to balance merchandise presentation, customer comfort and brand identity.

As a fashion underwear retailer, the store required organised displays for different product categories, styles, colours and sizes.

At the same time, the interior needed to maintain the lively atmosphere associated with the brand.

Shopfront and First Impressions

Situated in Tsim Sha Tsui, the store operated within one of Hong Kong's busiest retail districts.

In such a competitive environment, the shopfront plays an important role in attracting attention and establishing immediate brand recognition.

The expressive colour scheme and youthful graphics were intended to communicate the store's personality at first glance.

A distinctive entrance identity also helped differentiate YES CODE from more conventional fashion and lingerie retailers.

Open Merchandise Presentation

An accessible merchandise layout was important for creating a comfortable shopping experience.

Products needed to be clearly arranged so that customers could browse different styles, compare colours and identify sizes with ease.

Within a compact retail footprint, careful control of display density is essential.

An overly crowded layout can reduce visual clarity, while a more organised arrangement allows customers to navigate the collection naturally.

Flexible Fashion Merchandising

Youth fashion is closely connected to changing trends, seasonal collections and promotional activities.

The retail configuration therefore needed to accommodate adjustments to merchandise presentation without requiring major alterations to the store.

A flexible display strategy supports day-to-day operations while maintaining a consistent visual identity.

Brand Features and Photographic Appeal

Distinctive brand graphics and colourful visual features played an important role beyond conventional signage.

They helped establish recognisable points within the store and supported the boutique's photo-friendly identity.

For younger shoppers, a memorable visual environment can contribute to a stronger emotional connection with the brand.

The planning strategy therefore considered both the practical shopping experience and the overall impression created by the space.

The result was a compact retail environment designed to accommodate efficient merchandising while expressing the energy and individuality of Korean youth fashion.

MATERIALITY & DETAILING

Through the coordination of colour, lighting, merchandise display and brand graphics, the interior expressed a playful Korean fashion identity while maintaining a clear and comfortable shopping environment

The design character of YES CODE was established primarily through its visual language rather than elaborate decorative materials.

The objective was to create an expressive and approachable retail atmosphere that complemented the products and appealed to younger customers.

Colour and Visual Composition

Colour was one of the strongest design elements.

Bright and lively tones introduced a sense of optimism and youthful energy into the store.

The relationship between different colours needed to be carefully considered so that the interior would remain visually engaging without overwhelming the products.

For a lingerie boutique, this balance is especially important because the merchandise itself often includes a wide range of colours, patterns and delicate details.

A coordinated colour strategy allows the store to remain vibrant while preserving product clarity.

Merchandise Display Systems

Garment rails, shelving and related display elements are essential to fashion underwear retail.

Their arrangement influences how customers navigate the store and how easily they can examine different products.

Display heights, spacing and product classification must support accessibility while maintaining an organised retail appearance.

For YES CODE, these functional considerations needed to coexist with the brand's energetic visual identity.

Retail Lighting

Lighting plays an important role in presenting fashion products accurately.

Colours, fabrics and garment details need to be visible under comfortable lighting conditions.

The lighting approach therefore needed to support product presentation while contributing to the store's welcoming atmosphere.

Rather than relying solely on visual intensity, effective retail illumination should provide a balance between clarity, comfort and mood.

Brand Graphics and Decorative Identity

YES CODE's Korean fashion identity was an important source of inspiration.

The integration of brand graphics and decorative features helped transform the boutique from a generic retail setting into a recognisable branded environment.

These elements also contributed to the store's photographic appeal, offering visual moments that customers could associate with the brand.

A Relaxed and Approachable Atmosphere

For a youthful lingerie brand, customer comfort is particularly important.

An overly formal interior can make the shopping experience feel intimidating, while an excessively decorative environment may distract from the merchandise.

The design therefore aimed to create a more approachable balance — fashionable, colourful and playful, yet practical and easy to navigate.

Successful youth-oriented retail design is not simply about attracting attention through colour. It is about creating a coherent relationship between brand personality, merchandise presentation and customer experience.

PROJECT GOALS & OUTCOMES

The completed YES CODE boutique established a colourful, recognisable and youth-oriented retail presence for a Korean fashion underwear brand in Hong Kong.

The principal objective was to support YES CODE in launching its first Hong Kong retail store while presenting the brand's youthful fashion identity through interior design.

The completed boutique brought together expressive colours, approachable merchandising and distinctive visual features to create a retail environment different from that of a conventional lingerie store.

For YES CODE, the project provided a physical platform for introducing its products and brand personality to Hong Kong's younger consumers.

The store was designed not only to support underwear retail, but also to communicate the energy, individuality and playful character associated with contemporary Korean youth fashion.

Its photo-friendly visual identity further supported the ambition to create a memorable customer experience beyond the act of purchasing products.

For Enoch Deco, YES CODE demonstrated the importance of understanding a brand's audience, cultural background and commercial positioning before developing the retail environment.

Unlike a luxury boutique, technology store or conventional fashion outlet, this project placed particular emphasis on youthful expression, vibrant colour and the connection between brand identity and customer experience.

Within a compact 600 sq.ft. space and an approximately 1.5-month construction programme, the team delivered a retail environment that supported the brand's introduction to the Hong Kong market.

The completed YES CODE boutique was more than a Korean fashion underwear store. It was a colourful expression of youth culture, confidence and individuality translated into a physical retail experience.

The project illustrated how interior design can help a fashion brand extend its identity beyond merchandise, creating a setting where style becomes something customers can experience, remember and share.

COLLABORATION & CONSTRAINTS

The principal challenge was to translate an established Korean youth fashion identity into a practical Hong Kong retail environment, while completing the boutique within a relatively short construction programme.

As a Korean fashion brand entering the Hong Kong market, YES CODE needed to maintain a strong connection to its original identity.

The store was intended to communicate the brand's youthful character while responding to local retail conditions and commercial requirements.

This required careful consideration of visual expression, spatial planning and construction feasibility.

Maintaining Korean Brand Identity

One of the central objectives was to preserve the playful and colourful nature of YES CODE.

The design needed to remain consistent with the brand's Korean fashion background rather than adopting a generic local retail appearance.

At the same time, the visual direction had to be interpreted within the actual dimensions and operational conditions of the Hong Kong premises.

Compact Retail Footprint

With an area of approximately 600 sq.ft., the store required efficient use of available space.

Merchandise displays, circulation and day-to-day retail functions all needed to be accommodated without making the interior feel overcrowded.

The design therefore had to balance visual impact with practical planning.

High-Footfall Retail Location

Tsim Sha Tsui is one of Hong Kong's major shopping and tourism destinations.

Retailers in this environment face strong competition for customer attention.

The boutique needed to establish a clear visual presence while remaining accessible and comfortable for shoppers entering from the busy surrounding district.

Construction Programme and Delivery

The project was completed within approximately 1.5 months.

Within this timeframe, design coordination, material preparation, on-site construction and finishing works needed to be carefully managed.

For Enoch Deco, the project was an opportunity to support a Korean youth fashion brand in establishing its first physical retail presence in Hong Kong.

The value of the project extended beyond completing a store fit-out. It involved translating a distinctive brand identity into a functional commercial space within a demanding retail environment.
