The compact 1,200 sqft layout integrates an open counter, tiled kitchen wall, and linear seating to create a seamless flow between preparation and dining.
Soft lighting, pale timber accents, and exposed ceiling details express a refined urban simplicity — a space that feels youthful, honest, and unmistakably modern.

The design palette for SUPERDON embodies a disciplined minimalism inspired by modern Japanese eateries:
White Glazed Square Tiles — forming a clean grid backdrop for the open kitchen, symbolizing precision and hygiene.
Matte White Solid Surface Countertops — providing a seamless and durable preparation and dining surface with integrated under-counter lighting for subtle visual warmth.
Light Birch-Tone Timber Veneer — used for barstool legs, shelving, and detailing to soften the otherwise crisp geometry of the space.
Polished Concrete Flooring — unifying the restaurant with an understated industrial tone that contrasts elegantly with the luminous walls.
Exposed Ceiling Ducts and Track Lighting — accentuating the honesty of materials and maintaining a youthful, urban ambience.
Warm 3000K LED Strip Lighting — creating depth and comfort around the central counter and perimeter seating.
Minimal Planters and Potted Greens — offering organic relief and subtle movement within the strict linear composition.

CONCEPT & DESIGN INTENT
SUPERDON marks the client’s first Japanese restaurant concept in Hong Kong, specializing in sashimi rice bowls. The design vision was to express freshness, precision, and youthfulness through a minimalist Japanese aesthetic. The interior embodies the spirit of “super simple, super fresh”, aligning with the brand’s youthful target audience of office workers and urban diners in Causeway Bay.
SPATIAL STRATEGY / PLANNING LOGIC
Given the compact 1,200 sqft footprint, spatial efficiency was crucial. A central sushi counter was introduced as the social hub, surrounded by bar seating that promotes visibility and interaction. The elongated dining area, located toward the rear, was optimized with linear tables and bench seating, ensuring a smooth customer flow and maximizing capacity without compromising comfort.

MATERIALITY & DETAILING
A restrained palette of white tiles, light wood, and concrete flooring defines the space, punctuated by soft lighting and delicate plant accents.
Exposed ceiling ducts and industrial details contrast with the clean finishes, creating a sense of modern urban minimalism. The illuminated counter edge adds warmth and visual hierarchy to the otherwise neutral palette.
PROJECT GOALS & OUTCOMES
The primary goal was to create a modern Japanese eatery that feels open, approachable, and visually coherent with the brand’s clean graphic identity. The result is a calm, welcoming environment that enhances the dining experience while reinforcing SUPERDON’s position as a stylish yet casual destination for Japanese donburi.
COLLABORATION & CONSTRAINTS
Working on Lockhart Road’s narrow frontage posed design and construction challenges, particularly in creating an inviting façade within a limited width. Through close coordination with contractors and branding teams, the outcome successfully balanced street visibility, functional layout, and brand clarity, setting the foundation for the group’s subsequent F&B ventures in Thai, Cantonese, and Korean cuisines.
