A bright, casual Japanese eatery designed for the suburban rhythm of Tai Po.
This second branch of SUPERDON translates the brand’s youthful energy into a warm and inviting environment — where pastel hues, oak panels, and glowing pendants redefine the fast-casual dining experience.

Soft coral tones and rounded archways replace the industrial palette of its Causeway Bay flagship, creating a friendly, approachable atmosphere that resonates with local families and younger diners alike.

CONCEPT & DESIGN INTENT

Following the successful launch of SUPERDON in Causeway Bay, this second outlet at Tai Po Mega Mall builds upon the brand’s youthful energy while adapting to a suburban mall context. The design moves away from the urban-industrial palette of the first branch, opting instead for a lighter, more approachable tone that appeals to families and younger diners in a community setting. Warm wood panels, playful pastel hues, and softly rounded archways create a friendly and contemporary ambiance.

SPATIAL STRATEGY / PLANNING LOGIC

The space layout was divided into clear zones for dine-in, self-service, and takeaway. The entry features a transparent glass façade that visually connects the interior to the mall corridor, enhancing visibility and drawing foot traffic. Inside, continuous bench seating along the walls improves spatial efficiency and encourages flexible group arrangements, while bar counters near the glass frontage accommodate solo diners and quick meals.

MATERIALITY & DETAILING

Signature materials include light oak wood panels, vertical fluted wall details, white tiles around the service counter, and pastel gradient wall bands in coral and peach tones.

Soft globe pendant lights add a touch of warmth and balance to the neutral environment. The interplay of clean, white surfaces and warm, timber textures reflects a Scandinavian simplicity with a distinctly Japanese sensibility.

PROJECT GOALS & OUTCOMES

COLLABORATION & CONSTRAINTS

The project faced challenges in managing a large spatial footprint divided across several sections of the mall corridor. Coordination with mall management, food court service zones, and utilities was critical to ensure a seamless workflow between kitchen and seating areas. Despite these complexities, the project was completed within three months, maintaining both design integrity and cost efficiency.
