In 2007, E-Crusade, a French advertising agency, established its 9,000 sq ft Hong Kong office in Quarry Bay. The design adopted a post-modern and open concept, removing the traditional reception desk and replacing it with a lobby that directly showcased the company’s extensive awards.
The office was designed as a collaborative, open-plan workspace with sweeping views of Victoria Harbour, reflecting the youthful and energetic spirit of the agency’s creative team. Materials such as exposed concrete walls, angular glass partitions, and bold accent furniture added texture and character, while integrated lighting emphasized the modern, gallery-like environment.
Balancing raw industrial finishes with refined detailing, the space embodied both creativity and professionalism. The outcome was a distinctive workplace that not only inspired staff but also impressed clients, reinforcing the company’s reputation as a leading creative agency in Hong Kong.

CONCEPT & DESIGN INTENT
The design vision emphasized a post-modern, youthful identity aligned with the agency’s French creative culture. Instead of a traditional reception desk, the entrance transitions directly into an open lobby featuring a display wall for awards, celebrating the firm’s achievements, and branding its creative excellence. The approach was minimal yet bold, using clean geometries, asymmetrical openings, and concrete textures to establish a distinctive and memorable identity.
SPATIAL STRATEGY / PLANNING LOGIC
The layout was developed as a completely open-plan office to foster transparency and creative collaboration. With Victoria Harbour views from Quarry Bay, the design leveraged natural light and vistas to energize the workspace. Circulation flows seamlessly from the award showcase and casual seating zones into the larger work areas and breakout lounges, encouraging both formal and informal interactions. Meeting rooms and discussion zones were integrated at the perimeter, ensuring openness while retaining privacy where necessary.

MATERIALITY & DETAILING
A pared-back material palette emphasized clarity and rawness.
Exposed concrete walls introduced texture and authenticity, while white partitions and angular cut-outs gave the space a futuristic edge. Accent furniture, such as vivid red lounge chairs, injected vibrancy and contrast. Lighting was strategically layered—recessed ceiling lights, indirect coves, and focused pendants—balancing functional brightness with a gallery-like atmosphere. The display shelves, integrated with backlighting, created a curated setting for trophies and publications.
PROJECT GOALS & OUTCOMES
The primary objective was to design a workplace that resonated with the energy of a young creative team while strengthening the company’s reputation as a top-tier advertising agency. By eliminating the formality of a reception desk, the design conveyed openness and accessibility, while the award displays reinforced client confidence in the agency’s track record. The project was delivered on time and was celebrated for blending functionality, aesthetics, and brand storytelling in one cohesive environment.
COLLABORATION & CONSTRAINTS
Working closely with the client, our team responded to their request for a “non-traditional, post-modern” office that showcased creativity and innovation. The challenge lay in balancing the raw industrial finishes (exposed ceilings, concrete walls) with comfort and practicality. Through innovative detailing and precise material execution, we achieved a refined yet edgy workplace that clients and staff embraced.
